€> What is a handcycle?
Handcycles are like bicycles, but they usually have three
wheels. There are different types of handcycles, but they’ve
all got something in common - you use your arms, not your
legs, to move.
I Is a handcycle a wheelchair?
No, it isn’t. In wheelchair cycling, people put their hands
on the two big wheels. In handcycling, you don’t touch the
wheels and you usually lie down. But in both sports there
are three wheels.
O Who uses them?
Anybody can use them, but they are usually for people
with disabilities.
What can people do with a handcycle?
You can go on bike rides with friends and family and travel
to lots of different places. You can also keep fit and, if
you’re very good, you can enter the Paralympics!
Use the internet to find three other wheelchair sports.

1 a Read the beginning of the book review. What was Alice's present?
Review by: Charlie
Title: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Story:
On 26 November 1864, a young girl named Alice got a very nice
present. It was a story about a girl whose name was also Alice.
The book starts with Alice and her sister by a river...
Alice saw a white rabbit run past. The rabbit talked in English
and wore clothes. She went with the rabbit and then got lost and
was in a hall with lots of doors. But there was a problem. The
doors were very small. She didn't know how to leave the hall.
Then she saw a bottle on a table with the words 'DRINK ЛЛЕ' on
it, so she drank it and she got smaller. She left the hall and went
into a beautiful garden.
This was a magic place. She met a king and a queen, a talking
mouse and a smiling cat with no body. The queen didn't like her
and told a guard to take her head off!
What happened next? Read the book and find out!
Your opinion: ★★★★★ Fantastic! I loved this

2 He won six Olympic gold medals. T/F
3 He comes from Australia. T/F
4 A man that Ilves In Australia is faster than Usain Bolt. T/F
Read carefully. Look for the
important information (names,
dates, etc).
Usain Bolt is the world's fastest sprinter. Most people think he is the fastest man in
history. He ran at 41 kilometres an hour in 2009! He is the only man ever to hold the
world record for the 100 and 200 metres. He won three gold medals at the Beijing
Olympics in 2008 and did the same in the London Olympics four years later. He also
won eight gold medals at the World Championships from 2009 to 2013. He’s the most
successful (and the richest) runner in history.
He was born on the island of Jamaica on 21 August 1986. In 2002, when he was 15,
he was the youngest ever boy Junior World Champion in any running sport. He won the
200 metres. His world record time for the 100 metres is 9.58 seconds and his fastest
speed is 44.72 kilometres an hour.
That’s fast, but maybe someone else was faster in the past. We now know that 20,000
years ago in Australia a man ran at 37 kilometres an hour. Some scientists think that
people at that time were the biggest and strongest ever.
