Considering the environment and ecology, the 21st century paradigm, we aimed to produce an ecological residential complex by securing green zones and creating a living mountain stream to maintain the eco-environment, based on concept of life of beautiful nature revived in the city. Joined with a green space, the outdoor activity area enhanced the efficiency of an outer space, and the minimum pavement heightened the green area ratio, achieving an environment-friendly residence in a rich green zone. Various theme spaces offer variegated experiences and correspond to diverse social classes. We designed detail spaces relating to the green zone axis and walking axis, and linked the central space to its surroundings to establish the hierarchy. A group of tall pine trees gives the entrance a simple but unique look, adding a characteristic by the varieties of the paving material and pattern. Four-seasons trees were planted as to the their ecological characters. Each unit space has a particular tree, giving identity, spatial features and shade of tree. We also created a park that residents can gather, meditate and rest, and also installed a stage, where event performances can be held. Around the park is a group of pine and white birch and buckeye, producing the landscape beauty. Plants encircling the exercise facility make a green area that lessens the noise.

Aj^t)-. 'Ecological residence is the design concept, considering its being an ecological background of the river located beside Hangang(River) and Bamseomdslet). Minimized ground parking lot ensures high green space ratio, and ada of the multi-layer planting forms a biotope in the green zone. In the central area, we created an eco-pond, which is linked with a playground for children, and installed a gazebo and deck, putting together the amusement, relaxation and ecological education. Realization of Hangang(River)’ s Image - Water, Wind and Migratory birds> The image of water is reflected on the wall waterfall of the main entrance Blackstone Space’, and the fountain and eco-pond of ‘Yellow Sail Mast Space . The image of wind is held in the mast-shaped pagoda of 'Yellow Sail Mast Space . Installed in the 'Migratory Bird Space are a row of bird-shaped columns and migratory bird formed partition, on which one can see the characters of birds that is found around Hangang(River). ^Implementation of a Human Space> We arranged ‘Yellow Sail Mast Space’ and eco-pond+playground’ . following the concept of ’Multiplex Open Space for communication of residents, being a space of amusement, relaxation and ecological education. Areas around the complex were designed as lounges; three facility green zones are open to outsiders. To subdue the overwhelmness of the building, we implemented the design on a human scale, and planned a traffic line and space that suits a human behavior.

We focused on making a pleasant residential complex with a cultural flavor in diverse theine spaces featuring natural elements(pine. rose, tulip, rose of Sharon). The main/sub entrances, which decide the image of the whole complex, have a lovely road of tall zelkovas and pattem-paved walking path, thus emphasizing the entry. Inside the complex is a theine space that various entertainments can take place. Placed on the central square and sunken garden are traditional features like large pines of 1 Om high, mulhwak, brook and pavilion, thus offering a space for conversation and participation. A sky garden occupies on the rooftop of the commercial space. Utilizing stepped floors, we installed an active, lively brook and wall waterfall to give a refreshing feel and control the humidity, with solid design considering winter when the water doesn’t run. For middle-aged and elderly people, a gate ball ground is linked to the elderly house, creating a convenient traffic line and its placement.

The complex was divided largely into two axes - green and pedestrian. One can experience various French gardens along the green axis, and enjoy wildflower bed and colorful pavement patterns along the pedestrian axis. Green axis has a carpet flower bed, canal-type water facility, rose garden, parterre and labyrinth garden, making it look like a 'Green Carpet , when the pedestrian axis forms ‘Rainbow Street’ , providing people with a rainbow spectrum through wildflowers and paving pattern. Under such a concept, we created diverse theme spaces : a waterway between two fountains connects them. A wildflower bed, rose garden, lawn garden and topiary give the surrounding area a geometry and luxurious feel of a typical French garden. We also sought spatial connectivity by forming a herb garden and labyrinth, which are linked to the playground and lounge. Rows of columns and human sculptures were introduced as a vertical element to avoid one dimensional, monotonous atmosphere of a French garden. With pine, pond and pavilion. Korean garden brings harmonization of east and west, providing various kinds of landscape.

Daelim Apartment complex in Imun-dong features the newly designed formative pergola and a modernized traditional jangseung(totem pole) of the central square. The introduction of Danijae water facility is most noticeable. Unlike the usual apartment, we actively adopted water spaces(fountain and waterway of the central square, and wall waterfall of main/sub entrance) into the complex to give cheerfulness for vitality. It is such a shame to hear that people avoid adopting a water space because of its complicated management. An individual space, which is found on the walk path, was designed into a complex-functional space that serves both relaxation and sports. Being in regular use by limited residents, planting of the walking path was proceeded according to seasonal change, with the traffic line planned in an amusing way. Playground, sports facility and lounge lie adjacent to one another, providing convenience to family users and age/generation groups. But above all, the point was to think, feel and design from the user’s point of view. A good design is not just made of an excellent design concept, but it is completed only when the process and the user s view are also included.

We focusd on creating a space that insures fresh air, proper natural light and quietness, and adopted trees for shock absorption and air purification. As for the outskirt green zone, where a fitness course was installed, we selected trees (pine, pine nuts, etc.) that have connection with the outside nature, and its multi-layered planting and the scrub were designed to preserve the biological variety. Considering the sunlight condition, trees with high shade tolerance (Korean pine, Japanese strawberry tree, white birch, ivy. var. nana) were chosen for the lower pilotis (entrance) and north side of the residential building. The pavement plan introduced green shadow, spacial paving materials (small high pressure, lawn, special natural stone and porous concrete), preventing the concentrated drainage of rain caused by surface drainage, and supporting the water storage and the low flow.

In order to provide the natural and cozy well-shaded place, in a narrow space surrounded with tall buildings and retaining walls, the entire design was focused to improve external view seen from outside of buildings and complex and also internal view of retaining wall seen from inside of buildings. The retaining wall surrounding the ground, parking lot and landscape within the complex is at least more than 6m. To relieve the visual and spatial pressure resulting from this, the walls were divided into 2~3 blocks. On the other hand, the lower artificial wall was established in the front side. Raising the partial area of the landscape against the complex by Im was to create multi layers of structures. The retaining wall, vertical retaining wall, landscape artificial wall was all finished with clay bricks and marble to give a classic mood. Regardless of each different physical feature, one unified design concept was pursued. Considering there is a large scale of decorated area, the accessible lounge and place for relaxation was finished with lawn and stepping-stones along the traffic line for visitor to feel greener. Aided by artificial wall and formative wall fabric, the coercive feeling was turned into coziness. The formative wall fabric set in line with the artificial wall is similar to the wall fabric of Hyperion 1 in its image. For the planting plan, the planting part is located far upper than eye-level. Considering they are located at the upper part of retaining walls, most of plants are composed of evergreen trees. Around the place for rest, magnolia blossoms and maples were planned to add seasonal points with various flowering plants.

We attempted to predict, and sometimes guide an accurate traffic and behavior of each area to create a space, which appears on a recognition map of a user. Daelim Apartment complex in Imun-dong features the newly designed formative pergola and a modernized traditional jangseungftotem pole) of the central square. The introduction of Danijae water facility is most noticeable. Unlike the usual apartment, we actively adopted water spaces(fountain and waterway of the central square, and wall waterfall of main/sub entrance) into the complex to give cheerfulness for vitality. It is such a shame to hear that people avoid adopting a water space because of its complicated management. An individual space, which is found on the walk path, was designed into a complex-functional space that serves both relaxation and sports. Being in regular use by limited residents, planting of the walking path was proceeded according to seasonal change, with the traffic line planned in an amusing way. Playground, sports facility and lounge fie adjacent to one another, providing convenience to family users and age/generation groups. But above all, the point was to think, feel and design from the user s point of view. A good design is not just made of an excellent design concept, but it is completed only when the process and the user’s view are also included.

We took charge of Samsung Raemian in SinGongdeok design for the view of redesigning the complex-centered outdoor space, which consists of two courtyards, into a theme park for residents. Symmetrically placed on cither side of a housing unit, two courtyards adopted a square type and nature type park concept and were embodied as a sculpture-focused square and lounge that has a walking path and a pavilion in green area. We reduced the excessively used retaining walls and installed a green path on the main walking line to heighten the solid green rate. Another problem was the underground water flow out due to the constmction of a basement parking lot. We planned to run it above ground and make a water-friendly space, establishing a water circulating system from the entry to the two theme parks.

Byucksan Apartment, Bongcheon-dong was a residential complex to be renovated, having a geographical problem resulting from a big sea level difference north and south. The key was to arrange the retaining wall of 8m average height, which divides the complex in two, as a landscape. We installed an outdoor escalator to replace the stairs of 8m height difference starting from the entry of a main footpath. The wall waterfall at the entrance that faces the retaining wall secured the recognition and pleasantness. The most remarkable point was that we took charge of both the construction and landscape design, unlike the old way where they were progressed separately by different companies. Under the concept ‘Residential Complex with Korean Traditional Beauty’ , we tried to give unified image of construction, landscape structure, facility and planting.

Samsung Raemian, Dowon-dong required a visually attractive symbol or concept, which can unify diverse landscape elements of the complex for landscape solution of a low platform and architectural retaining wall. We set ‘Orientalism’ as a leading concept to actualize the eastern feel of the location name ‘Dowon’ and the function of an extremely modernized apartment. And based on which the design plan of central entry and main structure was embodied. There was also need for traffic connection and landscape improvement, because unlike the composition of plan, the level difference didn't allow the accessibility among the playground, lounge and exercise facility. This functional solution made a route that links various outdoor activity spaces into one, and naturally formed an alley where entanglement of small grounds and small-scale community spaces are found.

Poonglim I-Want Plus is a gateway to Bundang area, located at the center of Bundang commercial district. It is noticeable in terms of its scale as well as entire spectacle, playing an important role of Bundang's scenery. Considering the above, the entire design was focused on the appearance seen from outside and the view from inside. The 1st floor gives out nature and green image of Poonglim when seen from the entry into Bundang from Pan-gyo IC. After numerous discussions, we persuaded the officials to replace ginkos along Tancheon(Stream) to pines. The open area at the center of the 4th floor is the largest space designed to embody nature and environment-friendly image, being an important space in tern of visual, functional and scenic points. The large glass dome at the center is a medium connecting nature to human, functioning as a passage linking the inside to outside and absorbing sunlight. It is a starting point of design and planning, and all greens land spread from the central dome as a configured symbolic image. The vitality of green is turned into a pattern of the square, penetrates into buildings and spreads into all directions. The energy of nature is sucked into the circular dome and finally into the inside of building. The lower part of apartment surrounding the square has a raised floor that is decorated with wooden materials to appreciate the natural scene far away and to give relaxation to residents. Also, the outer block of deck was formed into a planter where real trees were planted, making the appearance of building look like a real nature. A building considerably affects the scenic beauty of a city and its environment and further urban culture. A beautiful structure can be a landmark, changes the landscape and a potential sightseeing resource. If the nature-friendly buildings increase, our city will be changed into a green place soon.

And that is Daelim Apartment Complex in Hogye, Anyang. We worked on the entrance, central park and visual point, heightening the efficiency. The environment composition distinguishes itself through trees representing spring, summer, autumn and winter. What makes the place shine is the planting plan, which is based on the shade/shadow analysis, the most important biological feature of a tree. Comfortable. Clear. One can estimate the size of the complex by just watching the large Central Park. The vessel-shaped playground, a theme space for amusement, grabs the settlers’ eyes. A familyunit sports park provides health benefits and quality time. And the in-line skate track inside the complex is good enough to lure out the people shrunk inside. The sweetly arranged rooftop terrace has a fine view, and its atmosphere of an open-air cafe leads people to idyllic scenery, which can’t be found in the city.

The landscape design of Г PARK. Samseong-dong aims at symbolism and identity of a high-class residence, the distinct outer environment harmonized with surroundings, and the visual, environmental improvement of urban landscape. Under the concept of ‘Green, healthy and friendly living space’. the 9% of building coverage guarantees spaciousness and green zone. Pleasant and leeway natural forest was introduced to 4800m2 Green Plaza on the center of the complex. We arranged a spatial specialization plan that gives distinction and recognition to spaces, and secured identity by four theme parks with special features and colors - Green Plaza, Sunken Garden, Flower Garden and health Garden. Each was organically linked considering access system and connection, making a family community space, where one can seek relaxation, meeting, gathering, and interchange with neighbors, a visually open space but with pivacy. Harmonized with the complex and surroundings, the basic planting plan presents the feelings of seasons and introduced tree kinds as to the spatial feature, specializing each space. At the entrance, Japanese cherry, pines are planted in the pattern considering the view, embossing the symbolism of entrance and image of seasons. And the walking path has function trees and landscape trees, establishing a diverse and well-developed plantirig/landscape plan. Environment-friendly and quality facility emphasizes unification, and homogeneous form, color and material corresponds to the entire complex image. Daewoo Euro County located in Cheongdam-dong is a living space surrounded by greenness; the underground parking lots maximized the green zone. As the town name clear water' , it introduced water facilities, such as a fountain and wall waterfall at the entrance and inside the complex, and also earned publicness by the renovation of neighboring Mongnyeon Children s Park. We presented a soft mood to the entrance, installing a sitting figure of a person, and finished the retaining wall, which results from the difference with the outside, using the artificial marble, stucco and wall greening with a luxurious touch. The elevation has formative beauty, with a space frame installed on the entry and upper side of underground parking lot. The pavement was finished with the durax and clay brick, completely excluding the asphalt concrete. In the green zone, we arranged high quality evergreens (pine, yew, Kaizuka juniper, Korean fir), maples(Japanese green maple, var.dissectum, trident maple) and flowering trees(Yoshino cherry, Japanese apricot tree, magnolia, dogwood, giant dogwood). We maintained the greenness by preserving, utilizing and introducing the sun-ounding nature, with enhancer! residential quality that has given consideration to the local environment, the residents’ characters and needs for outdoor activity. As for the planting plan, densely planted evergreens of the outer complex block off the poor landscape of the surrounding area. The complex entrance has tall trees for the feel of entrance and identification, and the apartment entrance has small ones for visibility. Deciduous trees lined up on both sides of the complex walkway. Screen planting was carried out with shadow trees and flower trees around the playground. Regarding the pavement and facility, the complex was mainly built on the walking node as to the users’ traffic fine. Therefore a cozier, more leeway residence is sought. To quench the thirst and heighten the quality of life, Daelim Apartment complen in Bargbae pulls the neighboring landscape image inside. We tried to present the whole complex as a luxurious residential space as if it were a hotel within nature, adopting the environment-friendly materials and warm, comfortable space/planting design. Main spaces inside the complex were approached to be leeway, familiar spaces added by straight lines (which give depth to a small space) and natural lines. Being composed of pavilion tree space, Water Square and Community Square, they guide people outside to relax, meditate and hold a small-scale meeting. Each unit has a small private garden in the rear of its 1st floor, allowing the 1st floor resident to use more various spaces. Also the soft, luxurious lighting plan gives out a whole new different look in the night.

Neighboring lounges were combined to introduce green areas rather than an artificial pavement. In the outskirts of different levels is installed a green area that minimizes the exposure of the retaining wall, and includes various human scale facilities of the main area. Thus, we adopted a stair garden, wall waterfall, and partition to create a new a landscape from a user’s view. Scenery and facilities, which utilize the diverse topographic levels, serve as the waterscape and environment formative arts. And the playground was also created using the level difference. The goal was to create a convenient outer space, which implements the unique identity of the complex and guarantees the residents’ outdoor activity through the green zone and the nature-friendly plan. Also, the spatial connectivity increases the efficiency of the traffic line, securing the convenience for residents.

Samsung Raemian in Bisan, Anyang was a project of renovating the existing apartment into a semi-urban scale complex comprised. One of the most important tasks in designing a large housing complex is to arrange community areas and allocate the corresponding independent functions. Hence the rhetoric concept ‘12 beauties of Bisan, Anyang . It elevates the product quality and distinguishes its location condition: the natural green zone, running down from Gwanak(Mt.), penetrates deep into the complex like a tongue. ‘12 beauties’ means ‘White Leaves along the Roads’, ‘Green Note of streaming Water’, ‘Beautiful Stone, Thick Mist’, ‘Big Laughter of a Little Child’, ‘Two Wheels cutting the Wind’, ‘Green Pine playing Music’, ‘Fresh Verdure honoring a Hower’, ‘Strong Men, Lovely Women’, ‘Green Shadow comforting the Crowd’, ‘Sculpture in a Forest’, ‘Bright Moon filling a Pond’ and ‘Hundred Howers, Ten Thousand Grasses”. Each was actualized as a program containing the landscape and user behavior.

Composition System • Composition according to City Context The building is located in the medium zone between administrative facilities including Daejeon Megalopolis City Hall, the 3rd Integrated Governmental Building and scientific research&display facilities including Daedeok Science Town and 93' EXPO Town. It is responsible for a buffer area. Three functions are different but will give surrounding residences energetic life. It plays a role in enhancing aesthetics as a cultural center and symbolizing a cultural function. In addition, located at the entrance of the park, it contains the area of users’ parking and access. It accommodates half of the parking capacity with the youth center respectively and has a vertical symmetric arrangement. The cultural park, located in the center of Daejeon, was designed to become a central park as a core according to the megalopolis green district system in a new downtown, provide citizens with recreational spaces and establish large-scale cultural facilities for cultural creativity • Composition according to Architectural Functions Due to inactive features of a gallery and active ones of a performance stage, both functions need to be clearly divided and maintenance and working functions should be harmonized in accordance with the general composition. In the case, the possibility to choose each function needs to be guaranteed and the connection system should be fixed. To achieve the both goals, the center of the both facilities are designed to be a symbolic void space where all circulations gather. Landscape and Outdoor Space • Rotated Space Gyeonggi Techno Park is a space owning the main concept to enhance a enterprise’s information and competitiveness, a venture office’s foundation and establish a research complex of industrial-educational cooperations The outdoor spaces were designed by the landscape concept that a series of processes from the development to the completion of new technologies and products were regarded as a system. Rotated function of the Techno Park, foundation - R&D - production - information exchange, was retranslated as a life’s quickening-growth-completition-rebirth. Every space was created to have its own symbolic meaning and link with others conceptionally. The symbolic space was connected to others by the natural axis, the repeated elevation pattern and the building mass and give landscape sequence. Unlike the original design the expected site was expanded and the research complex was determined to be expanded. Accordingly, it is regrettable that the completion point of the landscape axis was removed. • Entrance Plaza We organized water landscape facilities and symbolic monuments to enhance the recognition and the image of Gyeonggi Techno Park. A fountain materialized human(researchers) & site(Techno Park) & productsinew technologies or products) and included wrapping and pattern in accordance with floor scape. Sub-entrance Plaza The character of a traffic plaza was given to the sub-entrance Plaza which would be a transition and buffer space. Each green space and wrapping were organized by regular modules to emphasize thythm and unity.

• Hatching Garden The Hatching garden symbolized the processes to hatch from an egg through the circulation pattern across grass mounding and led the conceptual connection between the processes of the Techno Plaza’s birth. Techno Plaza It was surrounded by the building mass in which water facilities were designed to symbolize the moment of birth. It consisted of green areas standardizing new techonologies and products in the sophisticated digital era. • Growing Graden It was a linear garden connecting the building to the event plaza, established a visual axis and a conceptual axis through large frees and expressed the processes of birth through green areas and expansion of the volume of trees. Event Plaza It was designed to be a place for outdoor environmental-friendly events through outdoor stages and grass wood stands. It meant that a series of processes from the birth of the Techno Plaza were completed. • Promenade It was designed to be used as a place to exchange information by establishing free circulations and recreation spaces through the flow of existing forests and expressed the process of rotation through connection to the main approach spaces.

Design Concept • Identity according to Function - Rental Factories : expressed the maximized efficiency of accumulated similar facilities (new technology foundation center, high technology center) as a vertical mass and minimized the construction area corresponding to the weak base of the reclaimed land. - Support Facilities : Expressed the functions of the entrace circulation and the research facilities as a horizontal mass. - Rental Factories and Pilot Plants : Expressed the features of factories containing heavy equipments as a vertical mass with regular modules Introduction of Landmark factors Smooth curve provided by the mass of the support facilities became a horizontal landmark along with the coast road a little way from the site, while the mass of the rental factories got a vertical one far from the site. • Correspondence to Coast Road Long curve introduced natural access to the entrance square along with the coast road for vehicles and refine elevation of the rental factories became the central point. Consideration of Expansion Incoming circulation and centralization of the entire complex were determined from the west side and regular modules were fixed toward the campus on the east from the west. Idle coast road of the main entrance maintained formal, fucntion-al and spacial orders and expanded functions inside the site. • Indoor Community in the Complex The community in the complex was designed to communicate with each other on the outdoor spaces including the techno plaza and the event square and the indoor spaces containing an atrium. One space was linked with others through visual connection. • Openness to the Outdoor From green spaces to the entrance square or from the entrace square to the atrium moves visual flow. Second particular floor plan Simone Co.,LTD is a sound business to manufacture bags and is known to foreign states rather than domestic markets. This project won the design competition and had communicated with architecture from the initial phase. In addition, it was an outcome to consider the client’s outdoor spaces and reflect the architect’s design intention. Therefore, we really appreciate the client and the design office. Axis The building’s center was designed as pilotis with two floors to link the main approach with Anyangcheon(Anyang Stream), perform landscapes and open a passage for wind. Space Simone Building owns a variety of spaces. The spaces arc as follows : The main approach space and the buffer space facing the main road, the front garden with cascade and a reflecting pond next to the building, the central garden with trees and a wooden deck, the rear garden with hills and chestnut trees for employees’ recreation. Material The main materials of outdoor spaces were base panels and wood which were used as the materials of the building’s elevation at the same time. The materials gave expansion and unity. The Simone building is planned as a research center in the nature in order to satisfy with the role of a manufacturing factory and headquarters at the same time and improve such image. Before planning, it focused on establishing a landmark image as a green office in the district and providing the users with a high-quality space. The followings are the detailed targets of this project. First, it connects the office, factory and park organically to offer a comfortable and effective space for recharging and establishes a nature-friendly environment to improve the working conditions. Second, it creates the international image of Simone in terms of recognition and expresses the proud in compliance with the global competition era in order to secure business efficiency by improving the brand recognition and play the landmark role in the industrial roadside. Third, the interior plan aims at the high quality by introducing the total interior concept and the consistency of internal and external design in order to promote a thorough occupation mind in a differentiated space with a new concept. It improves efficiency by dividing functions clearly by means of the room arrangement in terms of arrangement concept and divides the space into the bag production area, sales consulting area and business area in order to maximize flexibility of each room. This area becomes detailed visually through divided three masses. For the external space plan, it focuses on maximizing the site usage efficiency and pedestrian safety by separating walking from traffic. By introducing four theme gardens(Oak plaza. Waterside garden, Maple garden, Lake garden), it creates a comfortable external environment applying for high-quality details in order to enhance the proud of workers and offer the best corporate image to the visitors. In terms of connection system of internal circulation and outdoor space, it separates the users by space by separating the circulation of customers from that of workers strictly. Second, it establishes a specialized circulation system by connecting the atrium, bridge and garden organically, which are the unique design elements of Simone Building. Third, it offers an organic connection of interior space and outdoor resting space by means of a proper arrangement of balcony, terrace and garden. In compliance with the latest trend of a naturefriendly green architecture, the interior plan adopts the open space to share the outdoor park and attract the nature stream into the inside. As a result it expresses the basic spirit of Simone respecting the nature by using it as an element of the active design. It emphasizes the wooden textile and transparency of natural lighting and overlaps natural materials with artificial materials in order to lay weight on the modern image by keeping tension in the design aspect. It creates the emotional space with an intimate and refined image by applying the feeling of natural wood and harmony of light according to the function of each room. The progressive space solution method of Simone headquarters provides the users with the unprecedented environmental-friendly design, which is regarded as the first experience for the users. The nature is making a new order in the close adjustment and relation between the elements such as shape and size of the mountain, water stream and wind. The artificial works like engineering and architecture are apt to have a destructive attribute even though the exerting influence on the sequence. When the architecture is interlocked with the order of nature, it adapts itself to its stream or it is amplified. The scar resulting from destraction can be restored by a careful establishment style. Two architectures in one district are constructed by keeping the administrative procedures and a legal limitations such as development size and building-to-land ratio. Kyowon Vision Center is divided into a research building and an education building by adjusting the relation between an artificial environment and a natural environment in order to establish different locality respectively. The site of research building has more exposed location which adjacent to the road detouring around the valley of lake. The research building attempts to make relation with road, cut site and site, and the architecture by means of three-phase establishment method. The first phase is a courtyard architecture. It establishes a static and intimate space in the environment of a short entrance space and noise from road. Two large and small courtyards tune the relation between lake and courtyard, symbolic hall, small courtyard and parking space. The second phase is a part below the road level and its closed functions are arranged in parallel with the road. The right-angled elements are constituted with the transparent glass to offer sight toward the lake giving direction to the courtyard. The third phase is a part above the road level and is to cross with the closed functions in the basement at right angle. It makes possible to constitute the circulation that is continuously detouring and to see the lake from the building owing to the open feeling from the road.

The site of education building consists of a curved level land resulting that the width of lake is drastically getting narrow. While the research building is a place with unstable conditions due to the road and cut site, the education building is a pleasant place where the geographical features of mountain, water and space size are naturally equipped. The establishing strategy of this place is the style adapting itself to the order. Two wings are arranged in parallel with the direction of valley, water and wind, and the transparent glass curtain wall is finally connected. The hall in the center attracts the lake in front and mountain in rear. It looks simple but it gives a rich space feeling because there is another layer of the nature surrounding outside. The establishment of this place is the style escaping from the order.

77ге East Sea embraces every thing as deep as it is... The sunrise gives everyone a hope... White waves beat upon rocks and sands... Fresh winds give out smell of the sea... A garden is waiting for those who want to be with the nature... Relationship with Earth The site is located in one side of a coastal resort where contains curious rocks, blue sea and sandy beaches. The front side in the site opens to the sea. On the other hand, having a nice view for Seoraksan, the rear side opens to rice fields in the neighborhood of the site, while are exposed to traffic noise and external eyes from national road No.7. It is quite different from the sites of other training centers generally located in mountains. As a resort-typed training center, an intensive use was needed to secure a excellent view, arrest traffic noise, control winds from the sea. make an efficient use of the conditions of the narrow site and enhance the efficiency of the spaces for training or recreation. Context We analyzed the site, having the task that we would harmonize the space to enhance the self-pride as an official of the Office of Railroads with a theme resort for families. hi order to promote officials’ culture, strengthen confidence between each other, rebuild organizing power and give adequate recreation for families, what type can we choose to materialize our unique space programs including the conditions of the East Sea or the optimum space arrangement? We determined various opinions through discussions about the design. We analyzed advantages and disadvantages of the site conditions, spaces to satisfy the essential functions of the training center, spaces for a recreational place in the East Sea and facilities to meet our tastes. The discussions made the spaces actualized. So many opinions were discussed. Elow could we use a casting net of a golf exercise place which was worn out? Elow could we fix an outdoor screen to project movies at night by using a support of the casting net. Elow could we set an over-bridge as a tower to connect the site to the seashore? Elow could we design a herb garden as an aromatic garden by using winds? We enumerated all items to emphasize the advantages of the site and chose some carefully among them. What is the item to be apt to a garden for families except facilities of a general condominium in the East Sea? What is the item to help the training center get regular profits every month? Others? Those questions were not ours. The discussions with Mr. Roh and others architects obviously became reminders who decided to save the view to the sea even if it could be difficult to use spaces due to the lengthen building. When we recalled the discussions with the satisfactory result, the win on the design competition, the result came from the praise and the cooperation between each person. The efforts that we tried to settle our agonies resulted in the win. We expect that they will develop more attractive spaces in a recreational place for both officials and public persons.

Facilities's planning Facilities Except training facilities including self-control and sports climbing places, outdoor swimming pools, golf exercise places were introduced to show the spaces with the concept of a luxurious seashore recreational place. In addition, various solutions such as moundings and stone walls were designed to reduce obstructive elements on roads. Circulations to connect to each space symbolized surging waves and blowing winds by using smooth curves. Colors, types and materials were designed to be harmonized with seashores by using clay bricks, granite, wooden decks, lawn blocks and stone pavement. Various uses and efficient maintenance for small golf courses, swimming pools and fitness centers and were intended for the functions and the patterns.

A visual axis was created to control opening and closing visions by planting large green trees such as meta sequoia, maple, oak and birch trees. Areas next to the road were organized as forests with buffer green lands and pine trees to reduce noise and bad landscape for shade and wind-proof. The landscape plan has three objects. It is a comprehensive, future-oriented and environment-friendly plan and make up an environmental network between atomic support facilities and current environments. One object is a human network and establishes the harmony with local residents. To the end, it develops a variety of programs, enhances the understanding of atomic energy and creates friendly outdoor spaces for local residents. Another is a blue network and make use of the environment-friendly, landscaping and recreational functions of water in order to provide water spaces. The other is a green network and introduces existing natural environments to the complex in order to set up various tree-planting plans for educational and fucn-tional effects. Outdoor spaces consist of six(6E) elements to accord the objects of the landscape plans. The 6E are event, ecology, exercise, entrace, education and exhibition.

Cooling water for atomic energy is introduced to a pond and an indoor swimming pool to prove atomic energy harmless and rain water collected from adjacent a reservoir and a check dam tuns to a mirror pond through an eco-pond of the educational field playing a role in the biotop of various creatures. Water stored at an underground reservoir through a large cascade provide water for water-friendly spaces and decorative fountains. The first one is the induction of existing natural environments and a forest zone including local trees is organized for the object. The second one is the background of the landscape and a landscape axis is fixed to organize the consistent and artistic landscaping. The third one is eco-trees for the monitoring bed to promote harmlessness of atomic energy. The last one is trees to maximize the effect of the landscape and trees are selected to represent the beauty of four seasons.
