Start stitching here
Your kit contains some white 14-count
aida, a tapestry needle, a bundle of
threads, and a card and envelope. Match the
thread colours to those listed in the key.
Ifs best to start stitching in the centre of
the chart: this is where the two heavy
black ‘o’ lines cross. Thread the needle with
two strands of red. Pull them out one by one
to prevent tangling. Now fold the fabric in
half both ways to find its centre.
Make a cross stitch on the fabric for each
symbol on the chart A cross stitch is
made up of two crossing diagonal stitches
that are worked using the holes in the fabric
(see the diagram below). Count the squares
away from the centre first on the chart and
then on your fabric to find where to start The
fabric is divided into squares by the holes.
Stitch the red symbols nearest the centre.
Bring the needle up in the bottom left cor-
ner of the square to make the first half of the
cross each time.
When you
have finished
the cross stitch
add the back-
stitch lettering
and outlines

Use the wreath designs to make
padded decorations for your tree. Trim
your stitched piece to leave 10mm
(з/дш) around the design, and cut a
piece of backing fabric the same size.
Sew the two pieces together with right
sides facing in a 6mm (i/zm) seam,
leaving a gap at the top for turning.
Stuff the decoration, fold ribbon in half
for a loop and push the ends in the
seam. Close the seam with slipstitch.

More dogs, please
I have been stitching for a few years, and my family love receiving
my cards. I am looking for a design of two black labradors, but I
haven’t found many designs of dogs in back issues of Card Shop.

Debra: I hope these two black labradors make
up for it. I think the contrast between their pink
tongues and black coats makes them look real. I
finished off their eyes with white French knots.
