This collection of tests and combinations is a continuation of the
‘Tactical Chess Exercises’ series. You are now more mature players,
and so the tests have become more difficult. In this booklet two
themes are presented: DOUBLE ATTACK and PINNING.
These tactical devices are present in every single chess game.
Pinning and double attacks occur from the early opening to deep
into the endgame.
Any piece, even the king or a pawn, can make a double attack.
But the queen and the knight, which can move in eight different
directions, are especially dangerous.
In your games you will also undoubtedly have suffered from
pinning. At times it can be very difficult to avoid the penetrating
attacks of rooks and bishops.
But we hope that, in time, pinning and double attacks will become
your dear friends and you will no longer fear them. We are confident
that, after solving all the tests in this new booklet, you will easily put
your Opponent in a pin, and then take him aback with a double or
even a triple attack!

The tests and combinations in the book
are divided into three levels of difficulty:
Ä ‘cadet’ -

The SYMBOL and the COLOUR of the piece next to a diagram
indicate the level of difficulty and whose tum it is to move. For
example:
A - White to move, ‘cadet’ level
A - Black to move, ‘officer’ level
We have left some blank space under each diagram for you to write
down your solution, as in a workbook.

Dieses Übungsbuch für Schachaufgaben und Kombinationen ist
die Fortsetzung der Serie «Lösungbuch».
Natürlich wurden die Aufgaben schwieriger, weil Sie sich in
diesen Jahren auch weiter entwickelt haben. In diesem Buch werden
zwei Themen vorgestellt: DOPPELANGRIFF und FESSELUNG.
Keine Schachpartie kommt ohne diese taktischen Tricks aus.
Fesselung und Doppelangriff verfolgen Sie von der Eröffnung bis
zum Endspiel.
Jede beliebige Figur, selbst der König und der Bauer, können
den Doppelangriff durchführen. Aber besonders gefährlich sind
die Dame und der Springer, die nach acht verschiedenen Seiten
angreifen können. Durch Fesselungen haben Sie in ihren Spielen
schon Verluste erlitten. Es ist sehr schwierig, sich gegen Angriffe der
Läufer und Türme zu verteidigen.
Wir hoffen, dass nach einiger Zeit die Fesselung und der
Doppelangriff ihre Freunde werden und Sie sich vor ihnen nicht
weiter fürchten. Nachdem Sie alle Aufgaben des neuen Lehrbuchs
gelöst haben, werden Sie ihren Gegner schnell in die Enge treiben
können, und danach überraschen Sie ihn mit dem doppelten oder
sogar dreifachen Angriff!
