Your kit contains the aida, threads, needle
and card you need. First, look up the
thread colours in the key. A different symbol is
used to show each colour on the chart
Start in the centre of the chart: this is
where the two black ‘o’ lines cross.
Thread the needle with one strand of
terracotta so you can stitch the flowerpot
3Fold the fabric in half both ways to find
its centre. Count the squares away from
the centre, on the chart and on your fabric, to
find where to start. (The fabric is divided into
squares by the holes.) Make a cross stitch for
each symbol. This consists of two crossing
diagonal stitches as shown in the diagram.
Move on to make the next stitch following the
chart. When you change colour push the
needle through the back of your stitches
Refer to the chart and key to see when
to use one strand for the cross stitch on
the flowerpot and when to use two. Some
areas are in half
cross stitch -
simply leave off
the second half
of each stitch.

Make a lovely Mother’s Day gift by
putting this red rose in a frame or the
lid of an oval trinket pot. If you stitch
the design on 22-count it will fit the
Framecraft PL4 trinket pot range
The lettering on this design is worked
in metallic thread. This is stitched in
the same way as stranded cotton.
However, it is advisable to cut shorter
lengths to sew with. If you find the
thread slips out of your needle, try
knotting it to the eye

framed in a card. Follow our
tips for a professional finish
YOU WILL NEED
THREE EASY STEPS TO
MOUNTING YOUR CARDS
Your stitching
Soft, clean towel
Thick card or foam
mouse-mat
Dressmaking pins
Scissors
Thin wadding
Double-sided tape
О Wash your work following the guide-
lines on page 64 and allow to dry.
Lay your design face down on a fluffy
towel and press it with a medium iron. Lay
your pressed work face up on the card or
mouse-mat. Place your card aperture over
it and move it until you are happy with the
way it looks. Stick pins around the inner
edges of the aperture. On square cards
place pins in the corners
©Carefully lift off the card mount and
trim the fabric to about 1 cm away
from the pins. This will leave enough fabric
for securing the stitching inside the card.
Attach small pieces of double-sided tape to
the back of the card around the edge of
the aperture. On square cards use longer
strips around the edges
©Peel off the tape backing and put the
card, right way up, over the fabric,
using the pins as a guide. Press down on
the aperture to make the tape stick to the
fabric. Turn the card over and put the
wadding, cut to the size of aperture, over
the back of the stitching (this is optional
but gives a nice padded look). Attach
strips of tape to the left-hand flap as
shown. Peel off the backing and carefully
fold the flap down on top of the stitching.
